It’s simply wonderful that there IS a High First Ward Historic District (established in May 2014) …. but we wondered what we could do with the vacant lots within the Historic District?
Well, how’s this for an idea? – building single family homes in an attempt to repopulate the current construction landscape with 1-story Victorian houses — reminiscent of homes that once represented the neighborhood! … We thought that was a good idea! And that IS exactly what we have done at 1708 Shearn St!
This Respectfully Built 4 bed/2 bath house stands proud at 1,702 sf on a 5,000 sf intermediate lot. Every effort was taken to make her look and feel like an old house, on the exterior as well as on the inside, despite being brand new! Salvaged wainscoting, old solid wood interior & exterior doors, antique stained glass windows and vintage industrial light fixtures are among the items repurposed within the home!
Note – 1708 Shearn is our fourth home on Shearn St … (1701, 1215 & 1311 being the previous three) … we seem to have a fondness for Shearn St!
Summer of 2021 – we returned to 1708 Shearn to build a workshop with an attached one-car carport for the homeowner. A small project but a big impact on the exterior elevation of the property!
