We were so excited when 1518 Alamo came up for sale! But what we didn’t know then, was what a hot ticket she would be! We were amongst 1 of 9 offers on this house – a testament to her solid bones and well cared for condition!
Built over a hundred years ago, 1518 Alamo still retains a number of historic elements – soaring 12′ ceilings, interior and exterior solid wood doors, hardwood floors and an extra long side porch which we kept as part of the restoration.
This historic home was very much loved and cared for by her previous homeowner, who were there for 16 years. We made them a promise that we would not tear down the home. Instead, the home would be Respectfully Restored and Respectfully Added-On to.
When we purchased her, she was a dainty 1,188 sf, but has been expanded to 1,801 sf with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Additionally, this charming historic home sits on an extra large 5,950 sf lot (an average full sized lot in First Ward is 5,000 sf). Thus, allowing for a 2-car covered carport with side-by-side parking (not tandem) and very large back and side yards!
Inside, there is a good sized kitchen with an extra large pantry! We have also exposed the original brick chimney, showing off the patina of the bricks. Also original to the home, a pair of French doors that hang between the (current) dining room and kitchen. The primary bedroom – part of the new addition, will have views into backyard as well as direct access into the laundry room from the primary bath – super convenient!
It was such a pleasure working on yet another First Ward historic treasure. She’s a beauty, and on a block with other historic homes and great neighbors!
